As large parts of Florida brace for the impact of Hurricane Ian, the sports world has rescheduled several games, with more likely on the way. Ian, a category 4 storm that has brought damage and flooding to Cuba, is expected to make landfall late Wednesday afternoon and continue piercing through central Florida until Thursday night.

This weekend’s series between the Mets and Braves will go a long way in deciding which team wins the NL East. It’s currently scheduled to be played in Atlanta — right in Ian’s path, with heavy rain expected throughout the weekend. The teams are tied for first place in the division heading into Wednesday night’s games and are playoff-bound. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has

Premier League, WSL and EFL weekend games off but other sports to continue | Soccer

Football was increasing looking like an outlier on Friday after its decision to postpone all weekend matches following the Queen’s death proved sharply at odds with most other major sports.

While Test cricket, the PGA championship golf and Premiership rugby opted to return to play on Saturday, the Premier League, English Football League and the four Football Associations in Britain and Northern Ireland canceled all games as a mark of respect.

The Premier League said its decision had come after a meeting of its clubs in which tributes were paid to the Queen. “To honor her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game,” it said.

Similar statements were released by the EFL and FA. However supporters’ groups and former players have questioned whether the cancellations – which also means the Women’s

NBA 2K23 review: Jordan Challenge and MyNBA Eras vs. microtransactions

There is no question that NBA 2K23 is the most inspired work in the series, or any other in all of sports video gaming. The real question is how much of its staggering depth most players will ever see.

It only took about 20 minutes — none of that spent in a game — to amaze me. All I did was go into MyNBA Eras, which is the new historical mode/franchise simulator hybrid that allows players to rewrite history in ways I didn’t anticipate. All I wanted to do is see what happened when I kept the Kings in Kansas City (they left for Sacramento in 1985). Obviously, I knew you could prevent franchises from relocating; 2K Sports took care to mention that crowd-pleasing fact in a series of previews earlier this summer.

What I didn’t expect was everything else that happened at the offseason league meetings — mostly because

Daily Fantasy Sports Games Still Alive In Ontario

While many Ontarians are wagering with a plethora of new, legal sportsbooks this NFL season, daily fantasy sports players in the province are still mourning the loss of fantasy sports contests.

The regulation of single-event sports wagering in Ontario effectively shut down most of the DFS operations in the province, as major operators like FanDuel and DraftKings launched their respective sportsbooks and iCasino products.

Regulations put in place by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission don’t prohibit DFS in the province, but they have made it more difficult for licensed operators. The reason is they don’t allow Ontario players to have shared liquidity with any other jurisdictions, so contests need to be ring-fenced within Ontario, vastly limiting the potential player pools and prizes.

FanDuel decided to shut down both its free and paid DFS contests in the province April 1 before joining the regulated sports betting/iCasino market on April 4. DraftKings

A sports game brings fiction to life in Queensbury

QUEENSBURY — Jenkinsville Park in Queensbury was home to an unusual athletic contest on Sunday.

The inaugural Wizard Fest featured games of real-life Quidditch from “Harry Potter,” known as Quadball.

There were also vendors selling “Harry Potter” themed products such as non-alcoholic Butterbeer.

The event was organized by the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce and CVB.

Gina Mintzer, executive director of the chamber, said officials wanted to create a new event that occurs between the car show in Lake George and this week’s Adirondack Balloon Festival, to help maintain momentum that drives tourism during this time of year.

Four out-of-town college teams competed against each other in the games.

“It’s the Muggle version of Quidditch,” the captain of the Cornell University team, Margo Treadwell explained.

Five years ago, this offbeat Nintendo RPG redefined sports games

We love labels. The world is complex, so our tidy monkey brains have to find ways to help us make decisions. Labels are how we turn assumptions into action, but they don’t always work. This is good because, paradoxically, we also love a surprise. And for Switch fans, there was perhaps no bigger surprise than this lowkey indie release that subverted two of the most popular genres.

Five years ago, Golf Story from Sidebar Games broke onto the scene and showed us that sports games are just RPGs — and vice-versa. With retro-style visuals reminiscent of the SNES era, Golf Story mixes a charming Earthbound style narrative with pitch-perfect golfing mechanics. It never feels gimmicky though; it’s always greater than the sum of its parts and remains one of the standout titles on Switch.

Your journey in Golf Story is a familiar one. You’re a scrappy young lad with something
